[Concept] Character Moodboards

Aaran Griffiths
[06/05/14]

This is some primary and secondary referencing material found for each of the characters I'm currently designing, during my feedback from my Gauss progress post, I condensed all reference material down into primary moodboards from mainly real life sources and secondary referencing from existing artwork that inspired my designs, from these I created some first pass colour schemes on Adobe Kuler that I could loosely apply to my design work and use as a palette later on for the texturing stage of the project.

I looked at the colours used for each of the elements we plan to have in our game, Grimm will make use of blue arcane magic powered from a crystal on its cover whereas Gauss will have the antagonists signature dark element which is represented by purple and powered by the purple crystals on his body and lastly the deviants which use the element of earth (Green).

[Pre-Visualisation] Final 3D Storyboard Template

Aaran Griffiths
[04/11/14]

We've decided on creating an illustrated storyboard based off of our written storyboard after having a group discussion in last weeks Pre-Visualisation class. We gathered reference material and decided on a final idea for our cinematic prologue/trailer. The background was put together former Duck Samurai member Jasper Dorado and I modified it for storyboard usage, we plan to use this template as presentation pages for our references, concepts, models and textures also so it ties in well with the main project. These will be used next semester for the final iteration of the 3D storyboarding. Here is the template:

[General] Team Flow Chart

Aaran Griffiths
[04/11/14]

During Richards lecture on Monday we discussed planning issues and solutions with the reduction of 'bottlenecking' when getting work completed. We created a flow chart to identify potential bottleneck issues and how we could solve them i.e concepts or modelling taking longer than they should and how to get back on track. The two possible bottleneck issues identified were concepts, character modelling/texturing and animation, the reason for this was because there were less people working in these departments. If it's taken longer than a week according to the teams gantt charts/production plan to complete tasks then we'll address this as bottlenecking and will solve issues by assigning people to help with certain tasks. Here is the flow chart in it's current state:

[Animation] Motion Capture - Session 1 & 2

Aaran Griffiths
[13/10/14]

These are some pictures illustrating our first two motion capture sessions with Mark on Wednesdays. Mike was performing for Flynn's entire animation set and we get the entirety of Flynn's basic movement done in these two sessions. We'll be uploading the video footage for Flynn's basic movements in the next post and shortly after pictures and videos illustrating the motion capture sessions for the Merchant, Gauss and Gauss Deviant (Enemy). Here are the pictures:

[General] Weekly Targets

Aaran Griffiths
[4/11/14]

Week 6 Targets:

*This weeks targets must be met along with anything from last week that wasn't completed, please look back at the previous weeks targets, this is our last at push 2 weeks for concept work so lets make it count, if you finish your targets and would like to work outside of your sub group for something, please address Kyle or myself before doing so, so we can make the following changes to weekly targets and gantt charts. Try to get atleast half your targets done by Fridays lecture and then completion by sunday. Apologies for the late weekly target upload, we discussed them Monday in Richards lecture and I had to consider things to be finished by Tuesday*

*Use personal gantt charts in coherence with the production plan to see if anything needs changing to reduce bottlenecking and getting things to the completed stage, if things on the gantt chart haven't been completed in the previous weeks, add them to your targets*

Kyle: Continue none unique asset modelling (3 models), the crane model needs to be primarily done by Fridays lecture, Sunday at the latest.

Ben: Continue none unique asset modelling (3 models), other barrel variations (If needed) along with other none unique assets on the asset list.

Aidan: (Tuesday) - Get Guards, Flynn's changes & Merchant done by Tuesday, Friday at the latest. Need to have started 2 models by Friday.

Mike: Final motion capture session (NPC, Gauss & enemy movement). Further refinement on motion capture data regarding all of Flynn's movements ready for animation.

Rhys: Whitebox/Test area (In Unreal 4), refine whitebox to a completed standard, whitebox needs to stick to grid with appropriate scale. Add bridge to the canal.
